You can really make the most of your whole living space while giving it the wow factor with a European twist.
Whether you want to join your living room to a dining room with a grand set of double doors or open your kitchen to the garden, our French doors combine classic design with modern performance. Every door is built to the highest standards, we use toughened safety glass across our whole range of double doors and back all our products with a minimum 10-year manufacturers guarantee. This means you get lasting quality and peace of mind with every purchase.
Internal French doors are perfect for connecting living spaces with light and style. They’re a popular choice for dining rooms, kitchens and living areas because their unique two door system and large glass panels allow natural light flow between rooms and accessibility easier – making spaces feel brighter and more open.
Crafted from solid timber, oak internal French doors add a warm, natural look and naturally help insulate between rooms too. You can choose them pre-finished in white or wood veneer so they’re ready to install straight out of the box, or opt for unfinished doors that you paint on-site. The possibilities are endless!
Because safety matters even indoors, Doors & More’s French internal doors include toughened glass as standard. The result is stylish, sound interior double doors that clearly divides rooms yet keeps sightlines open – perfect for rooms where you want maximum light but still want to maintain some separation.
Love the benefits of traditional French doors but want the flexibility of bifolds? Frenchfold internal doors give you the perfect blend of both. These clever hybrid doors look just like classic internal French doors when closed, but have the added feature of folding hinges that allow both panels to concertina open like bifolds – perfect room dividers for smaller spaces or wider openings where swing clearance is limited. It’s a stylish, space-saving solution that adds versatility without having to compromise on natural light or looks.
All of our external French doors are specifically designed for outdoor use and built to withstand anything the Great British weather throws at them.
Thermally broken aluminium-framed French doors naturally resist rust, corrosion and warping over time, so they stay looking good with almost no maintenance for many years – a quick wipe-down is usually all they need! The slim aluminium profile means larger glazing areas are possible, allowing you to make the most of the view out into your garden and letting even more natural light into the home.
Whether you choose aluminium or uPVC French doors, they all come with high-performance double (or triple) glazing filled with argon gas. The low U-value thermal glazing keeps heat in during winter and blocks heat in summer – helping to keep energy bills low and comfort levels high.
Security is high on our priority list, too. With toughened safety glass, internal beading and the latest multi-point locking systems as standard, you get the best protection against break-ins. Outward-opening by default, they make it easy to step outside while making it more difficult for any unwanted visitors to get in.

French Door FAQs
What’s the difference between internal and external French doors?
Internal and external French doors look similar but serve quite different purposes. Internal French doors are installed inside the home to divide rooms and let light pass through. They’re usually made of wood and are focused on style and interior flow. While wood is naturally insulating, interior French doors don’t come with the weather stripping etc that’s needed to really stand up to the elements or intruders in the same way exterior French doors would.
External French patio doors, by contrast, are fitted on the outside wall of the house. They have weather-resistant frames and much stronger, more energy efficient glazing and locks to stand up to wind, rain and more solid security needs. In short, French patio doors must withstand the elements and provide security, while indoor ones mainly improve light and access between rooms.
Are aluminium French doors secure?
Yes. Modern aluminium French doors are very strong and secure. Aluminium frames are rigid (allowing slim, elegant profiles) but can support toughened safety glass and high-end multi-point locking hardware. In fact, Doors & More’s aluminium patio doors use safety glass and a superior multi-point locking mechanism by default.
This combination makes them highly resistant to forced entry. In practice, a well-made aluminium French door provides protection on par with any other quality exterior door.
Are French doors energy efficient?
High-quality French doors can be very energy efficient. The key is good glazing and seals, robust frames and of course, a competent fitter.
All of our external French doors are fitted with double (or triple) glazed units, often filled with argon gas which creates a vacuum between the panes. This insulated glazing keeps indoor air in and outdoor air out much better than single glazing. Our aluminium frames are also thermally broken and our uPVC French doors are made from a range of modern insulating materials, which further cuts heat transfer.
Proper weatherstripping and a precise fit minimise drafts too. All of these things together mean our French doors will help maintain a comfortable temperature and can help reduce your heating/cooling bills.
Do I need planning permission for French doors?
In most cases, no. French doors in the UK are generally treated like any other window or door installation and don’t need planning permission. In fact, installing new French doors, either internally or externally, can often add value to a home because they make the space more liveable and thus, more desirable.
The only exceptions are special situations such as if your home is listed or in a conservation area, it’s always wise to check local council guidelines, but typically you can replace or install French doors without needing extra approval.
