FSC Certification

FSC Certification

Timber is a valuable and renewable resource. However, the unchecked exploitation of forests can have devastating effects on our environment and communities. That’s where Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification comes into play. FSC certification is an internationally recognized standard that ensures timber products are sourced from responsibly managed forests. For more details about the FSC, visit the FSC website.

We’re pleased to sell a wide variety of FSC-certified products from Climadoor, JB Kind, XL Joinery, Deanta and Jeld-Wen. You can find their full environmental policies on each of the brands’ websites.

FSC certification is important for the following reasons:

  1. Protecting Forests: FSC certification guarantees that timber comes from forests that are managed sustainably, ensuring the preservation of biodiversity, water resources, and ecosystems. By purchasing FSC-certified timber products, you are actively contributing to the protection of our planet’s forests.
  2. Supporting Local Communities: FSC certification promotes fair treatment and economic opportunities for local communities. It ensures that timber harvesting is conducted in consultation with indigenous peoples and local communities, respecting their rights and traditions. By choosing FSC-certified products, you are supporting ethical practices and empowering communities that rely on forests for their livelihoods.
  3. Preventing Illegal Logging: With FSC certification, you can be confident that the timber products are not sourced from illegal logging activities. Illegal logging not only contributes to deforestation but also undermines sustainable management practices and generates funding for organized crime. By choosing FSC-certified products, you are making a stand against illegal logging and encouraging responsible forest management.
  4. Promoting Transparency and Traceability: FSC certification ensures that the entire supply chain of timber products, from forest to consumer, can be traced back. This transparency allows customers to make informed choices about the products they purchase and support companies that prioritize sustainability. FSC certification provides a reliable guarantee that the timber used in a product is from responsibly managed sources.
  5. Encouraging Industry Accountability: By demanding FSC certification, consumers play a crucial role in driving market demand for sustainable timber products. This puts pressure on companies to adopt responsible practices and strengthens the business case for sustainable forestry. FSC certification encourages industry accountability and promotes a shift towards a more sustainable future.

There are three levels of FSC certification:

  1. FSC 100%: All material in the product is from FSC certified forests.
  2. FSC Mix: At least 70% of material is from a mix of FSC certified forests, controlled wood and recycled materials. Controlled wood is from forests that have to meet FSC standards but are not directly FSC certified. This is the certification that Climadoor products have (certificate FSC-C109654).
  3. FSC Recycled: All material in the product must be from recycled sources. A minimum of 70% must be post-consumer recycling and up to 30% can be reclaimed material from the manufacturing process.

Your choices matter, and together we can make a positive impact for the environment and our communities. Choose FSC-certified timber products for a more sustainable future.
