FAQ

Choosing new doors for your home is a huge thing, it’s perfectly natural to have lots of questions especially if you need to order many different types and sizes. So, below we answer the most common questions that we get asked to help you decide if LPD Doors are the right fit for your project.

Are LPD Doors good quality?

Absolutely! We wouldn’t stock them if they weren’t. LPD Doors are widely chosen because they offer reliable quality without overcomplicating things. They’re designed for everyday living, meaning they look good when first installed but also stand up well to regular use over time.

LPD focuses on practical construction, sensible materials and designs that don’t date too quickly. This makes them a popular option for homeowners who want a noticeable upgrade without stepping into premium or bespoke pricing. If you’re comparing a few brands and aren’t sure where LPD sits, Doors & More can help with comparisons, just give us a call.

Do LPD Doors come with a warranty?

They do! LPD Doors are covered by a minimum 10-year manufacturer warranty, which protects against faults in materials or workmanship, as long as the doors are installed and maintained correctly.

This gives peace of mind, especially if you’re replacing several doors at once. If you’re unsure what’s covered or how to keep your warranty valid, Doors & More can help clarify the small print before you buy.

Are LPD Doors suitable for DIY installation?

Many LPD doors are very DIY-friendly, particularly moulded hollow core and semi-solid internal doors, which are lighter and easier to handle. Confident DIYers often fit these themselves with the right tools and preparation.

That said, solid core, fire-rated and external doors are heavier and more demanding. These may still be DIY-installed, but many people prefer professional fitting to ensure the best finish. If you’re unsure what’s realistic for your skill level, it’s worth asking for advice first.

Do LPD Doors offer fire doors?

Yes! LPD Doors includes fire-rated options in their product range, giving you a recognised solution when you need the extra peace of mind that comes with certified fire performance.

LPD’s fire door range includes mostly FD30 internal doors, which are tested and certified to provide up to 30 minutes of fire resistance when installed correctly. That makes them suitable for most residential settings where building regulations demand fire separation, such as between a living space and an integral garage or in certain hallways and stairwells.

They also offer a smaller selection of FD60 rated fire doors, which offer 60 minutes of resistance. These are better suited to light commercial premises, HMO’s and larger homes where more time might be needed.

What types of internal doors does LPD offer?

LPD has one of the broadest internal door ranges on the market, which is a big part of its appeal. Their collection includes:

  • Hollow core doors for budget-friendly upgrades
  • Semi-solid core doors that offer a better balance of weight and performance
  • Solid engineered core doors for a more premium, sturdy feel
  • Internal fire doors for homes that require additional fire protection
  • Glazed doors to help light travel between rooms
  • White primed, unfinished and pre-finished options
  • Room dividers and double doors to really ramp up that open plan feel

The variety from LPD makes it easy to choose different door types for different rooms while still keeping a consistent overall look throughout your home.

Do LPD doors offer bespoke sizing?

At the moment, LPD’s range does not include a widespread bespoke sizing service. However, their range is manufactured in an array of standard UK sizes, which cover the most common internal and external door openings you’ll find in most homes. This makes ordering straightforward for most projects and ensures good availability with quick delivery, too.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that many of their doors come with generous lippings too, which means they can be trimmed onsite for a better fit. For most projects, this is all that’s needed.

If however you need doors that are significantly larger or smaller than standard, they aren’t typically available straight from LPD as custom-made sizes. In this case, it’s worth looking to other manufacturers such as Climadoor, who do offer a completely bespoke sizing service.

Can LPD internal doors be trimmed to fit my door frames?

In many cases, yes, but trimming allowances vary by product. Some doors allow only minimal trimming due to the style or type of door, while others are more flexible. Fire doors, in particular, have stricter limits to ensure they remain compliant.

This is one of the most common areas where mistakes happen, so it’s always worth checking specifications carefully. If you’re unsure, we can confirm trimming allowances before you order, helping you avoid costly issues later, just get in touch with our team.

Do LPD internal doors help reduce noise?

They can make a noticeable difference, depending on the door type. Solid and semi-solid core doors provide much better sound reduction than hollow core doors, which is especially helpful for bedrooms, home offices or shared living spaces.

While they’re not soundproof, choosing the right core can significantly improve privacy and comfort at home.

Do LPD internal doors come pre-hung in frames?

Typically, no. LPD internal doors are usually supplied as door leaves only, rather than pre-hung. This offers much more flexibility, especially for renovation projects where existing frames are being reused or replaced separately.

Does LPD also manufacture external doors?

Yes! Quite a few actually. In addition to internal doors, LPD offers a full range of external front and back doors, designed to suit both traditional and modern properties.

These doors are built with durability and everyday security in mind, making them suitable for typical UK homes.

What materials are LPD external doors made from?

LPD external doors are made from engineered timber or composite GRP constructions. These materials are chosen to help improve stability and reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and moisture.

As with all external doors, proper finishing and ongoing maintenance are important to keep them performing well over time.

Are LPD external doors secure?

When installed correctly and paired with suitable hardware, LPD external doors can be very secure. They’re designed to work with modern locking systems, including multi-point locks.

Security depends on the door, frame, lock choice and installation, so it’s important to look at the full setup rather than the door alone.

Are LPD external doors energy efficient?

LPD external doors are specifically designed to reduce draughts and heat loss when fitted correctly with proper seals and glazing.

While energy efficiency performance varies by model, they can play a big role in improving overall home comfort.

Can LPD external doors be painted or customised?

Some LPD wooden external doors are supplied unfinished or primed, allowing you to paint or stain them to suit your home’s exterior.

In this case, it’s essential to use the correct exterior-grade paints and finishes to make sure the door is fully protected and to maintain its appearance for the long haul.

Why choose LPD Doors?

LPD Doors are popular because they’re versatile, dependable and easy to live with. Whether you’re refreshing a single room or upgrading your entire home, their wide range makes it really easy to find doors that suit your style, budget and practical needs.

If you’d like extra reassurance, Doors & More can help you:

  • Compare LPD ranges side by side
  • Check sizing and trimming allowances
  • Decide between internal, fire-rated and external doors
  • Make sure your doors work with existing frames and hardware
