Bi-fold doors consist of a number of panels which fold back onto one another in a concertina arrangement. As you might gather from the ‘bi’ prefix, the doors you see here come with two panels. Each of them will prove extremely useful in situations where space is at a premium.
So, if you have a cupboard in the corner of a room, and don’t want to have to contend with a standard internal door which opens outward; causing an obstruction and making accessing its contents difficult, then a bi-fold door might prove exactly the solution you’re looking for.
But as well as being a functional space-saving mechanism, bi-fold doors also provide a welcome source of aesthetic novelty – they’re a little bit out of the ordinary, and so will make any interior space more interesting to look at.
When choosing a bi-fold door, you’ll have broadly the same decisions to make regarding materials, glazing and design as you would with an ordinary, single-fold interior door. We have a range of oak and pine bi-fold doors, as well as moulded ones. You’ll also have a choice between glazed and solid-panel doors. The panelling comes in a variety of different sorts, too – including the tradition six and four panel designs which have been popular since the 19th century, as well as an assortment of more contemporary varieties.
You’ll also be able to select from primed or unfinished doors – meaning that if you’d like to apply your own finish, you’ll be able to do so. That way, you can customise the colour of your bi-folding door so that it matches (or provides a nice contrast with) the surrounding décor.
To maximise space each panel of a bi-folding door is tethered to a rail, along which it glides smoothly. This rail can run along either the floor, the ceiling, or both. If you’d like a seamless transition between one room and another, it’s best to select a door that’s suspended from the ceiling.
The bi-fold doors you see here are easy to fit, and for the most part come complete with a track and blinds – though it’s worth checking the individual listing before making a purchase. If you’ve any questions, need any terminology clarifying, or you’d simply like to discuss what sort of door your home might benefit from, then be sure to contact us – and we’ll happily address your concerns!
