Kirby & Wells

Kirby and Wells have been around since the early nineties.  They first began to trade as an ironmonger in 1992, and have since grown from a small, family-run firm to a large and well-respected supplier for businesses, homes and government buildings up and down the country.  The company ship all manner of different products, including cabinet furniture, brackets, bolts, hinges and control for doors on commercial premises – and their catalogue is always growing.

The items they now supply include high-quality and affordable items of door furniture – that’ll look the part on a wide variety of doors.  In this section of the site, you’ll find a wide selection of them, which will match a wide variety of different homes and settings.

Included here are both lever-style handles, and the classic doorknob style.  The former is undoubtedly the easier to use, providing more leverage with lesser force.  The latter, however, still holds a certain irreplaceable charm that makes it beloved by many homeowners.  In America, a doorknob is still the standard – and so we’re sure to see the technology survive on this side of the Atlantic for a while yet.

Though it might seem a minor touch, the right door handle can make a big difference to the look of a set of doors, and by extension the rest of the room.  Make the right choice, and you’ll be one step closer to the aesthetic consistency you’re looking for.

When making your choice, you’ll want to consider the other items of furniture in the room.   If you’re shopping for the kitchen of a traditional cottage, then a contemporary chrome door handle might provide too jarring a contrast.  If, on the other hand, you’re looking for something for your new, modern bathroom, then a chrome handle might fit the bill admirably.

You’ll also need to consider the practical use you’ll get out of the handle.  After all, they aren’t just used to open doors, but to lock them, too.  If you’re buying for a door where privacy is essential, like that of a bathroom or a guest’s bedroom, then remember to buy one that can be locked from the inside.

If you’d like a traditional, Victorian-style locking brass handle for you external door, on the other hand, then you’ll find them here.  These handles make a great addition to front and back doors – though you’ll need to provide the lock itself!

When making your decision, you might wonder which of our handles will make the best match for a door you’re considering buying.  You might also wonder how you’re going to go about installing the handle once you’ve gotten it into your possession.  If you feel like you need advice about which handle might be best for you, then don’t hesitate to get into contact with us – we’ll be able to provide you with the advice you need to make the best choice for your home.

Remember that all of the handles we sell come in complete sets containing everything required to attach it to your door – so you need only perform the installation!
